An NFT records that an address holds a particular token. It is not automatic copyright and usually not the file either, which typically lives on storage the token points at. The durable applications are provenance and transferable rights — tickets, credentials, in-game items.

The market data needs care: floor prices are listings rather than trades, and reported volume has a long history of being manufactured.
