About Velvet

All assets →

Velvet is an on-chain trading and portfolio management terminal that bills itself as a 'DeFAI operating system' — DeFi plus AI — bundling spot swaps, perpetual futures and vault strategies across multiple chains into a single interface. The VELVET token sits underneath as the protocol's fee-discount, staking and governance asset, and it's backed by a notable roster of crypto-native investors including YZi Labs (formerly Binance Labs), DWF Labs and Selini Capital.

What it does

Velvet supports trading across Base, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, Hyperliquid, Monad and Sonic, routing spot trades across many pairs with an emphasis on minimising slippage. Its standout feature is a vault system: community managers can deploy strategies as vaults with shared execution logic, and followers can mirror those trades with the same execution quality rather than relying on delayed copy-trading. An integrated AI copilot, branded Velvet Unicorn, lets users research tokens and place trades through natural-language commands rather than manually navigating multiple chains and interfaces.

Holders can lock VELVET for up to four years to receive veVELVET, which grants governance rights, tiered trading-fee discounts, and a share of protocol revenue — a vote-escrow model borrowed from Curve's veCRV playbook and now common across DeFi. Staking VELVET more broadly can also earn cashback of up to 100% on trading fees, directly tying token demand to platform usage.

Risks

Velvet concentrates a lot of surface area in one product: cross-chain trade routing, vault strategy execution, and an AI assistant that issues trading instructions all sit on top of smart contracts across seven different networks, which multiplies the number of places something can go wrong relative to a single-chain protocol. AI-assisted trading tools are new enough in this space that their failure modes under stress — bad routing during volatile markets, misread natural-language instructions, or copy-trade slippage across many followers — aren't yet well tested through a full market cycle.

The token's value depends heavily on continued platform usage and vault manager reputation; if headline strategies underperform or a vault manager mismanages funds, both trust and the fee flywheel behind VELVET's veVELVET rewards can unwind quickly. As with any multi-chain protocol backed by trading volume, bridge and cross-chain messaging risk sits underneath the user-facing experience even when it isn't visible in the interface.
