What Unibase is trying to build
Unibase pitches itself as decentralised database infrastructure built for the AI agent era: a way for AI applications and autonomous agents to store, verify and retrieve data — memory, state, transaction history — without depending on a single centralised cloud provider that can alter, censor or lose that data. The underlying problem is real. As AI agents increasingly take actions on-chain, from executing trades to managing wallets, they need somewhere to persist verifiable state that isn't just a centralised database an operator could quietly edit. Traditional cloud databases work fine for most AI workloads today but offer none of the auditability crypto-native applications generally want, and existing decentralised storage networks like Filecoin or Arweave weren't built for the low-latency, queryable access patterns AI agents actually need.
Unibase's answer combines decentralised storage with database-style querying and verification layers, aimed at developers building AI agents, on-chain AI applications, and Web3 products that want tamper-evident data without running their own infrastructure. The UB token is used within the network for fees, staking by node operators who provide storage and compute, and governance over protocol parameters.
Where this stands today
Unibase is an early-stage infrastructure project competing in an increasingly crowded field of AI-plus-crypto narratives, where dozens of teams are pitching some version of decentralised compute, storage or verification for AI agents. Its differentiation depends on actual technical execution — latency, query performance, developer experience — that's hard to verify from marketing material alone, and adoption by real AI applications, rather than speculative token trading, is the metric that will determine whether the thesis holds up.
Risks
The AI-infrastructure-meets-crypto category is thick with projects making structurally similar claims, and most of them will not survive contact with actual developer adoption; Unibase needs to prove it's meaningfully faster, cheaper or more reliable than both centralised alternatives and rival decentralised storage networks, not just narratively adjacent to the AI trend.
