JUST (JST) is the native governance token of the JUST ecosystem, the DeFi hub built on TRON that powers JustLend DAO, the network's dominant lending market, and the wreckage-strewn history of the USDJ and USDD stablecoins. It's one of the oldest DeFi brands on TRON, launched back in 2018, and it has survived multiple stablecoin crises to become the fee-generating backbone of Justin Sun's blockchain.
What JST does
JustLend DAO is the main event: a lending and borrowing market that regularly reports tens of billions of dollars in total value locked, rivalling Aave and Compound on Ethereum. JST holders vote on protocol parameters and, since late 2025, benefit from a formal buyback-and-burn programme that routes a share of protocol revenue into open-market JST purchases that are then destroyed. Sun has framed this explicitly as a value-accrual mechanism rather than a pure governance token, with more than a billion JST already burned across multiple phases.
The ecosystem also underwrites USDD, TRON's crypto-collateralised stablecoin, which replaced the earlier USDJ token after a rocky stretch that saw USDJ wound down through a phased sunset completed in 2025. JST sits at the centre of that stack, absorbing liquidation fees and protocol income.
Risks
The obvious one is concentration risk: TRON's DeFi ecosystem is inseparable from Justin Sun, a figure who has settled fraud charges with the US SEC and whose personal decisions move markets. Governance in practice tends to follow Sun's lead rather than a genuinely decentralised process.
USDD's collateralisation has been questioned before, and any stress in that peg would hit JustLend and JST directly given how tightly the two are wired together. Buyback programmes also depend on protocol revenue holding up — if TRON DeFi volumes fall, so does the burn rate, and JST's deflationary story loses its main pillar.
There's also the standard TRON caveat: much of its on-chain activity is USDT settlement rather than organic DeFi usage, which inflates headline TVL and transaction numbers without necessarily reflecting durable demand for JST itself.
