What Humanity Protocol does
Humanity is a blockchain identity project built around a simple pitch: in a world flooded with AI bots and sybil farming, apps need a cheap way to confirm a wallet belongs to one real, unique person. Its answer is palm-vein biometric scanning, captured through purpose-built "Humanity Card" devices, converted into a cryptographic credential rather than a raw image, and issued on-chain as a proof-of-humanity credential that other protocols can query. The pitch is that palm veins are harder to spoof than a face and less invasive than an iris scan, the method Worldcoin popularised and the one Humanity most directly competes against.
The stated technical approach leans on zero-knowledge proofs, so a dApp checking whether a wallet is "human-verified" is supposed to get a yes/no answer without pulling the underlying biometric data itself. Verified users receive credentials that can, in theory, be used for sybil-resistant airdrops, undercollateralised lending, decentralised UBI experiments, or simply keeping bot farms out of token distributions — a problem that has genuinely plagued airdrop season after airdrop season.
Humanity raised funding from investors including Kingsway Capital and Animoca Brands, and its H token launched in 2025 with the now-familiar large-cap listing push across major exchanges, positioning itself as a cheaper, faster-growing rival to Worldcoin's World ID network. Much of its early user growth has come from the same playbook: sign up, get scanned, wait for token rewards.
Risks
The core tension is unavoidable: this is a project asking millions of people to hand over biometric data — a category of information you cannot ever reset if it's mishandled or breached — in exchange for token incentives and abstract promises about zero-knowledge privacy. Independently verifying that raw palm-vein data never touches a centralised server, or that it can't be reconstructed from stored templates, isn't something most users are equipped to do, and it puts enormous trust in Humanity's own infrastructure and its partners' hardware supply chain.
Regulators are watching biometric collection closely — GDPR treats it as a special data category, and several jurisdictions have pushed back hard on Worldcoin's iris-scanning rollout, including outright restrictions. Humanity faces the same scrutiny risk. On the token side, H's value has leaned heavily on speculative listing momentum and airdrop-farming demand rather than proven, sustained integration by third-party apps, and vesting unlocks for early investors are a standing overhang on price.
Treat proof-of-humanity as an unproven category, not a settled solution — the privacy trade-offs are real even if the anti-bot problem it's targeting is genuine.
